Neonate hatchling (less than 6 hours old), ready to be released for tracking. The tag is a Sonotronics IBT-96 and hangs from the bobber. The turtle is tethered to the bobber with a very thin nylon fishing line. Click here to see a video of a hatchling swimming with a VHF tag.
Locating the acoustic pingers with the hydrophone is a matter of skill. After a little practice I was able to find my turtles in 2 to 3 listening stops (no need to switch off the boat engine).
